A Local Charity Making a Real Difference: The Dylan Strong Foundation

Recently, through local networking here in Surrey, we were introduced to a charity doing some truly meaningful work — the Dylan Strong Foundation.

Founded by Louise Long following her son Dylan’s experience with cancer, the foundation was created from something no family should ever have to go through. But what stands out immediately is how that experience has been turned into something positive, supportive, and genuinely impactful for others facing similar challenges.

The Dylan Strong Foundation focuses on helping children and families affected by cancer, providing support that goes beyond the clinical. From funding equipment and experiences, to offering moments of normality during incredibly difficult times, the charity is built around one simple but powerful idea — making life a little easier when it matters most.

What we found particularly striking is how local and personal the charity is. This isn’t a distant organisation operating at scale — it’s rooted in real experiences, real families, and real communities. That makes the work feel immediate and tangible. You can see exactly where the impact is going.

At Glow Homes, we spend a lot of time talking about long-term thinking — designing systems, homes, and infrastructure that support people over time. But it’s a reminder that “support” means very different things depending on the situation. For some families, it’s about energy independence and future-proofing a home. For others, it’s about getting through the week, the month, or the next stage of treatment.

Charities like the Dylan Strong Foundation play an essential role in that wider picture of support. Quietly, consistently, and without fanfare, they step in where it’s needed most.

We’ll continue to highlight local organisations doing important work across our community. Because building something meaningful — whether that’s a home, a system, or a support network — always starts locally.
